Greek Seleucid Kingdom 144-c142 BC Antiochus VI Dionysus Silver Drachm NGC Ch VF – Series VI

Antiochus VI was crowned king as an infant by the general Diodotus Tryphon, who sought to use him as a figurehead in opposition to Demetrius II Nicator.

Although Antiochus VI’s rule was short-lived, it occurred amid significant internal strife within the Seleucid domain, including battles for power among various claimants to the throne and increasing pressures from external enemies.

The circumstances of Antiochus VI’s death remain unclear, but he disappeared from historical records around 142 BC, likely dethroned or killed by Tryphon, who then declared himself king.
