Greek 323-317 BC Philip III Silver Drachm NGC VG – Series VI

Philip III, half-brother to Alexander the Great, served mainly as a puppet king and was characterized by the initial conflicts of the Wars of the Diadochi, where Alexander’s former generals divided and fought over the vast empire.

Philip III’s position was often used by competing factions as a means to legitimize their claims to power.

In 317 BC, Philip III was deposed and executed by order of Olympias, Alexander the Great’s mother, in a bid to secure the throne for her grandson, Alexander IV.
