Byzantine Empire AD 613-641 Heraclius + Her Constantine Gold Solidus NGC MS – Series VI
Heraclius is best known for defeating the Persian Sassanian Empire, at the Battle of Nineveh in 627. These efforts not only secured the empireÕs eastern borders but also retrieved the True Cross, which had been captured by the Persians.
Heraclius introduced the policy of Monoenergism and later Monotheletism in an attempt to reconcile theological disputes within the empire, but was unsuccessful
Despite their military and diplomatic successes, the later years of Heraclius’s reign were overshadowed by the Arab Islamic conquests, which resulted in the loss of significant territories.
